Hi everyone,

Its the time of the year again!

AGM this year:

Venue: Netball Singapore Multi-Purpose Room
Date: 18 Dec, Fri
Time: 6.30pm - 9.30pm

Dinner will be provided.
The meeting will begin after dinner so do be punctual as much as possible.

As per past tradition, there will be a Christmas Gift Exchange, so do prepare a gift of ~$10. We will draw lots to see who gets whose present on the day itself.

If you have yet to confirm your attendance, please do so asap with your tree top / me / Jing Qing / Yizhen / Meixin.

National League Delayed Telecast

Blaze 2 hit the courts this evening, up against the notoriously known Extremes, and came home with our first victory with an eye-opening score of 51-26.

The Soniques were indeed a young team, but Blaze 2 fought well and hard throughout the game, displaying never-before-seen levels of teamwork and flow.

Unsurprisingly, the highlight of the game was not on court, but rather on the sidelines of the court. He-who-shall-not-be-mentioned received a warning from the umpire, with regards to his infamous verbal etiquette. Surprisingly, the empty vessel shut up thereafter, presumably from being filled with hot air and fury.

Good game, Blaze 2! Let's keep up with this pace.

Also, many thanks to Jocelyn, Meixin, Rongzhen, Julynn & friends who took the effort to come to the match.

Report: Blaze Netball Carnival 2009

Ladies and ladies! First official appearance of our new Blaze Logo!
And the last minute put together poster which obviously didn't make it in time for the event...

The Blaze Netball Carnival 2009 was held on the 14th of March (Saturday).
This is our second attempt at holding such an event for the primary school category, and a successful attempt at that.

The carnival started at 8am, with 17 individual teams registered under two divisions; the 11 & Under Division, and the 12 & Under Division.
After a long morning of battles, injuries, and impromptu signing sessions, the event came to an end with our special guests, National players Miss Chen Huifen and Miss Lin Qingyi, giving away the trophies to the top four teams for each division.

Many thanks to all participating teams and coaches, our hardworking umpires and officials, mamashop mamas, and most of all, Miss Zhang Rongzhen for making this event a success.
Also worth a mention, we were blessed with fine weather (unlike the carnivals organized by a certain netball organization).

We hope you had fun and if you missed the fun this time, join us next time :)

Some updates~~

Team colours ---> Team or Captain's decision

To differentiate between the teams, we have decided that each team will decide on your common team dress colour for internal league.

So do the communicating amongst yourselves to decide which team plays in what colour.

Dress colours after shower ---> RED WHITE GREEN

Yes, you must be dressed in the above 3 colours. Not red, white or green. Its Red, White AND Green.

Although no prizes will be given out for the best dressed, we thought a colour theme will bring some post christmas cheer and fun to AGM. :)

Wear the colours or risk being penalised.

You have been warned.

One of the more important things in AGM in my opinion. haha. Anyway, this year we have decided to cater western food, something different from the usual chinese types.

Club Fund Payment for 2008

Hi All,

It has come to our attention that many amongst us are behind in the payments to the Club fund.

The payment rate is pre-determined in accordance to your age, current educational level and assumed financial situation. Currently, players holding full time jobs pay SGD$180 per annum.

This money goes direct to payment for courts, participation of tournaments, etc.

We are committed in providing a most comfortable and worry-free environment for training.

Therefore we seek your cooperation in doing your part by contributing to the club fund on the stipulated basis which will in turn help ensure we continue to enjoy a healthy bank balance.

For the year ending 2008, Blaze has decided to impose a one-time payment of SGD$30.
The payment should be made during AGM.
If you have paid more than the amount stated above in 2008, the balance will be rolled over to the following year.

You may also wish to clarify your payments for 2008 with our Treasurer, Rongzhen. (rongzhen@gmail.com)

Any disagreements or concerns with regards to the payments(s) may also be brought up with the Coaches / Treasurer / Managers during AGM / training.

Once again, we thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing you at AGM 2008.

TRAINING TEE FOR YEAR 2008

Alright, i know half the year is almost gone but don't worry, you're still going to get your Tees, and I will make this as hassle-free as possible. I promise.

Training Tee for Year 2008 will be somewhat simple, so people looking at us during trainings will not be distracted by any fanciful whatnots. Machiam got people looking at us during trainings right.... hahaa...

Anyway, feedback gathered from players was that the Tee for Year 2007 was not as comfortable as they would have liked. There were also comments on the tee being smelly after some time. (Probably didn't wash properly right... lol. k, i was only kidding.)

Hence Pure Cotton was decided as the Tee Material for Year 2008.
We were wearing Dri-Fit last year.

We had also chosen White, to keep us cool in Hot and Humid Hingapore.
Not that we have any intentions to start training in hot and humid hafternoons.

But we thought they would look best against the Club's Logo.
Yes, we do have a club logo, and its right there... on the right. Right up there.

So, there you have it, a White, Pure Cotton training tee (Sleeves Included)

Price of 1 Training Tee: 10 to 12 dollars
It is likely a subsidy would be given.
Will update once sizes and total quantity has been confirmed.

To order 1 in your size, please follow the instructions below.

Instructions:-

Step 1. Find a soft measuring tape, those used in Home Economics sewing class.

Step 2. Look at Training Tee sample picture below.

Step 3. Know that Blue is the Sleeve-To Sleeve Length,
Red is the Body Length, and
Green is the Pit-To-Pit Length

Step 4. Measure if the below measurements are your optimal fit.
For the above Tee, it is a Small size (Note: Not drawn to scale)
The measurements for a Size S Tee are as follows:

Sleeve-To-Sleeve: 30.5 Inches
Body Length: 26 Inches
Pit-To-Pit: 18.5 Inches

FYI, i wear S and i took these measurements off my Tee cause the Supplier says the size would be very similar. By the way, when i say similar i meant its similar to a Black cotton training tee we had 2 years back. Not the Blue Dri-Fit sleeveless one.

These shirts come in Xtra Small, Small, Medium, Large.

Step 5. DECIDE!!
Remember they come in the above sizes so if the above S is not optimal for you, you may like to take either a larger or smaller Tee Size. I am not exactly sure what could the difference be if you go one/two sizes up or down, but i am quite sure the difference would very likely be around an Inch or so.

Step 6. Send your Name and Choice of Size to your Tree-Top.
Tree-Tops please consolidate them and send them to me via Email/SMS

Remember, the deadline is 22th April 2008, Tuesday, 2359Hrs
So, do Decide by then.

After which, we will help you to decide on your Tee size. :)

Updates about April's training

Yep! Thank u Bozhen, Shihui, Petrina and Xianwei! (Though I don't think they will see this too. Haha.) Anyway, here's the update of the month:

We've decided to cancel the last 2 trainings for the month of April. Therefore, no training on the 18th and 25th of April.

Friendly with RJC next friday, 11th April, is still on. Kindly confirm your attendance to Jac or Yizhen.

Please note that National League is starting in June. So try not to miss any training in May. (There is training every Friday in May.)

Note: Ms Hing will be glad to plan some activities on the 18th and 25th of April for those who are keen to keep up with their fitness. Probably long run, skipping, ladder/cone drills etc. This is not compulsory. If you are interested, contact Jac. =)

Case of THEFT

On Friday evening, 16th February 2008, during Blaze's usual netball training, a suspicious case of theft and vandalism took place.

There were no witnesses, but we have managed to secure an important piece of evidence/victim:

Some sub-par netball club whose-name-shall-not-be-mentioned, made a miserable attempt to claim our netball for their own by overwriting our label with their unbelievably artistic talents. Reasons for such ungentlemanly acts have not been uncovered, but our investigators suspect it may be due to said club's poverty of club funds.

I hereby suggest said club to consider giving up netball and taking up professional graffiti instead. At least if they end up getting arrested, it will be for public vandalism and their masterpiece MIGHT still be considered as a piece of street art. Much more glorious than getting arrested for the theft of an old, dusty, rubber netball.

Blaze training is on as usual the coming Friday. Pray no one makes such pitiful attempts of stealing our possessions again.

First off, to wish Phoa Huilin (6th Jan) an advanced Happy Birthday! May you have a wonderful time celebrating while many of the rest of us are melting under the sweltering sun (or trapped at KNC waiting for the rain to stop AGAIN).

Since people have been commenting that there have been no updates, here's an update for updating's sake.

Please note that the Blaze Annual General Meeting is to be held on the 16th of December, at the Multi-Purpose Hall at Kallang Netball Centre, from 3pm to 7pm.

Players participating in the Year End Carnival, please be ready for warm up by 8.15am. You will attend the AGM as scheduled, unless you have informed the coaches/manager of your absence.

And don't forget to bring along your present for your secret buddy!

The blaze primary school carnival will be held on the 3rd or 4th week of Jan (Saturday) as most of our people are not free to help out on 11th. Netball Superstar

This is belated news, but better late than never, yeah?

Warmest congratulations to our very own Chen HuiFen for clinching the MVP title at the recent 5 Nations Netball Cup which was held in Singapore. You know, the one where Singapore won? I guess that doesn't really help, but you know which one I'm talking about, right?

Not a very recent picture, since I don't have any of HuiFen's recent photos in my possession, but she's always been looking great so I suppose it doesn't make a very big difference right? :D

And of course, let's also not forget our other brilliant players who are also putting in their best to bring pride to our country (and of course to BLAZE), Vanessa, HuiYan, QingYi, and LiLing. Congratulations to the five of them for making into the World Netball Championship 2007 team. All the best! While not many of us can make it to New Zealand to witness the event, we'll definitely be rooting for you girls back here in sunny Singapore. :)

The championships will be commencing this November in New Zealand.

It's halfway through September already here's the first update for this month. After a one-month long break, Blaze is finally back in action and on the courts. Training was light and fun-filled last night, mainly focusing on toning up our abdominal muscles, and it ended with yet another abdominal exercise... cake eating.

A small celebration for our beloved coaches was in store at the end of training. Not known to a majority of us, it was Coaches' Day yesterday. Presenting, the four great beauties of Blaze: RongZhen, JingQing, Imelda and Julynn.

Pesta Sukan Carnival 2007

Finally, after 3 gruelling weekends, the Pesta Sukan carnival has come to an end. This year, we sent one team to the annual event. A ridiculously unbalanced team, yet managing to pull through the matches and emerging amongst the tops of the carnival.

And now for the introduction... our team consisted of SEVEN defenders. Yes, SEVEN. Meixin, Jac, Yizhen, Joan, Kangli, Liting and Rongzhen. SEVEN. As shown in the picture evidence, we put all seven of our defenders on court during one of our matches and amazingly we managed to pull the stunt off, not only successfully claiming a spot into the second round of matches, but also successfully amusing ourselves.

Of course, it is impossible to be without attackers in a team. Our FOUR precious attackers. Weiqi, Aili, Christine and Huilin, discussing strategies on court before the match starts.

Quoting Weiqi, the carnival was utterly unfair due to the ridiculous double knockout system in the second round, requiring us to play a seemingly endless row of matches in the horribly hot weather. At the end of the event, most of us were seriously shagged. A few of our players sustained injuries, but thankfully none of which were physically disabling.

Like during most carnivals, we just sit around and complain about the terrible weather, the inefficient running of the event... but this year we implemented a new form of entertainment. Photography! You can run, but you can't hide~ our photographers are professional. :) This is what happens when you try to hide from the camera... you get even more amusing photos of yourself. ^_^V

Last but not least, three cheers to Blaze, for coming in Third position in this year's Pesta Sukan Carnival.

Match Report: Blaze VS Winderoo

10th August 2007, Friday night, Friendly match against Winderoo Senior High School (Australia)

So, we had this friendly match against the Aussies this evening. It was certainly an eye-opener, be it for the juniors or the seniors. I'm certain that even our senior team had the experience of their lives. Great game girls!!

For those of you who missed training tonight, and thus missing the match, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU MISSED. Because honestly, there wasn't much to miss. Except for a few new penalties that we learnt about and should be aware of in our upcoming games. Penalties such as 'Contact ~~on the foot~~', 'Holding ~~for space~~ (for attackers)', 'Holding ~~when you're two feet away from the opponent~~ (for defenders)', and 'Obstruction ~~because you're flying past in the air~~' are such serious penalties and should be avoided at all costs, for commiting such penalties would only tarnish our team's reputation of being a clean team.

It is regretful that our worthy opponents did not seem to appreciate our best behavior, but it was a great game nonetheless. While our attackers were very much hindered by the extremely accurate calls from the Aussie umpires, we managed to put up a good fight to come back with an optimistic result of 48-27 (senior team) in our favour.

We sympathize with the few Aussie players who injured themselves in the course of giving their all for the match, and we sincerely hope they recover soon. So that they can be comfortable and well enough to pack up and return back to their beautiful country in time for their busy schedules.

While our considerate coaches did prepare souvenirs for our visitors, we definitely lacked the personal touch in our gifts. The girls from Winderoo put in such great effort to express their gratitude, presenting Blaze with a lovely handmade card with their handwritten greetings.

And while all our players certainly performed to their best while trying to keep themselves penalty-free, the most outstanding player of the night was definitely our beloved Discipline Mistress, Miss Yeo Wei Qi. The usual mid-court player took on new challenges tonight and took up the position of Goal Keeper, effectively rendering herself as the shortest GK in Blaze history. Small in size but big in performance, Wei Qi intercepted numerous passes in the goal circle despite facing an opponent who was a head taller than she is.
